Noi and his father live in a house by the sea, hisfather works hard as a fisherman and Noi often has only their six cats for company. So when, one day, he finds a baby whale washed up on the beach after a storm, Noi is excited and takes it home to care for it. He tries to keep his new friend a secret, but but there"s only so long you can keep a whale in the bath without your dad finding out. Noi is eventually persuaded that the whale has to go back to the sea where it belongs. For Noi, even though he can"t keep it, the arrival of the whale changes his life for the better - the perfect gift from one friend to another. Winner of the 2014 inaugural Oscar"s First Book Prizein association with the Evening Standard.
作者简介 Benji Davies is an illustrator and animation director. From a young age he was often to be found painting at the kitchen table, a scene which can still be seen to this day. Benji studied animation at university, and has since worked on a diverse array of projects, from picture books and animated short films to music videos, commercials and title sequences. His books have been co-editioned in many languages and countries around the world. The Storm Whale is his first self-penned picture book. He lives in London with his wife Nina.

Thank goodness I bought two copies of this book because otherwise I wouldn"t have a gift for my nephew. Everything about this book is wonderful. I love the artist"s palette and each page is beautiful. The text is spare, but perfect. There are so many wonderful details to enjoy -- a cat peeking out from its position on a shelf, the two mugs and cookies that Noi has set out for himself and his rescued whale, the texture of rain falling on the sea, and so much more. Adults and children will cherish this book.
My four year old son is obsessed with whales, fishing and the sea. He loves it! I love it because it"s beautifully illustrated. It is very quiet and poetic. It gives you space to think. The paintings add a lot to the story, and gives us the opportunity to have a conversation about the book. It makes me happy when my son is captured by something that is not violent or overly dramatic.
A beautiful book! The simplicity of the story and its message, coupled with the lush illustrations provide a wonderful experience for the beginning reader or a special, "read-to-me" moment for those who still need a bit of help.
We live this book and bought another copy for our nephew. The story is sweet and meaningful and the illustrations are amazing. Be sure to find all the cats on the first page - they"re all there but you need to really search for them!
Love this book. The story might not have many words, but the world that the artist created is so rich and warm. My 2 year old son loves when I read it to him, and we already had this book for at least a year!
